NetHui

NetHui, NZ’s favourite Internet gathering hits the regions

Posted:

NetHui is going on a road trip to the Manawatū, West Coast, and Southland this coming October. If you live in one of these regions, and run a business, work in education, the creative industry, gaming, tourism, IT, a telco, are part of a migrant community, or the next generation of Internet users then make sure you register for the NetHui Roadtrip.

NetHui offers a diverse programme addressing the challenges and opportunities the Internet brings to us all. Because the programme is developed by the community, the NetHui Roadtrip holds discussions that are unique and relevant to each of the host regions.

InternetNZ Outreach and Engagement Director Andrew Cushen says, “As the Internet plays a bigger role in our lives it’s more important than ever that New Zealanders have the power to connect with each other, have access to information, and are able to deliver goods and services.

“Bringing NetHui into the regions allows for a wide range of conversations and enables small communities to connect with each other, with government leaders and the Internet sector to find solutions to the problems they’re trying to solve.”

We have three unique programmes that reflect the regions they come from - covering the arts and creativity, digital inclusion and rural connectivity, Māori harnessing the opportunities in a global world, online safety, tourism, gaming, the digital economy, connecting migrant communities, running a business and uptake of ICT, an open digital government, open data and much more.

The speakers and facilitators are as diverse as the programmes and include; representatives for Southland from the Rural Connectivity Group Caitlin Metz and Telecommunications Users Association of NZ Craig Young. From Manawatu Lisa Warbrick and Daphne Luke discuss the unique perspective of a Māori worldview in tech, leading the West Coast panel discussion on the digital economy will be Tash Barnes Dellaca, Co-Founder EPIC Westport and Julian Brown, EPIC Blockchain Hub Director.

Don’t miss this opportunity to learn, share, connect, expand networks and discuss the future of the Internet.

Thanks to APNIC, scholarships to attend NetHui are available for women and non-binary people who work or are interested in the tech sector. If you need help getting on board our NetHui Roadtrip in Manawatū, West Coast, or Southland, your application is welcome! Applications close 23 September, 9pm
